Newsham Hospital is a vast, Victorian Building, built approximately 200 years ago for the orphans of Sailors.

The Grade II listed building is believed to be one of Liverpool's Most Haunted buildings.

This building is massive in size with so many spooky Corridors, Dens and Rooms to get lost in.

On the upper floors of the building the old Hospital Wards can be found along with a Bell Tower, Chapel, eerie Staircase’s and the all time ultimate; the Mortuary with fridges still intact!

This building has lain dormant and desolate for many years and much of the paranormal activity that is said to have occurred has been reported by security staff whilst patrolling the location.

 
We arrived an hour before our guests, where we were taken on a quick tour of the available areas. John showed us the Morgue and the old School House as well as the Asylum, basement, and hospital wards. It was all very spooky. The building is dilapidated and there is no electricity....

We picked up on several spirits, one being a man called Maurice, who haunts the Morgue - he was very active during table tipping and also managed to let out two, raspy breaths behind me and a guest. 

The franks box came out with some interesting information and kept referring to a military link which we will have to check up on.

The Ouija board produced some good results and on the ghost walk, right at the beginning of the evening, several guests saw a streak of white light, zip through the air in front of Michael as he spoke about a young girl who was following him in the School House.

Ghosts and Spirits and what to expect.

At the beginning of our ghost hunts with the public, I always give a little chat about what to expect, and a little insight into the world of ghosts and spirit.

It is sometimes very frustrating for us, when we get people who are not used to investigations come along, and expect to see all kinds of phenomena throughout the night. We even have people leave early sometimes because they 'haven't seen a ghost'.  I thought it may be useful to set out exactly what happens on a ghost hunt and what may (or may not) happen to you.

First off, seeing a full apparition (that is a full, solid manifestation that everyone in the room can see) is incredibly rare. In my whole life I have seen about six, and when you bear in mind, I visit haunted buildings almost every weekend, that really isn't very many at all. A paranormal investigation is much more likely to be an experience personal to you alone. You may get tapped on the shoulder, you may hear breathing in your ear or you may suddenly feel your eyes fill with tears. You may feel the pain of the spirit or the emotion. These things are far more likely than seeing slimer coming towards you down a corridor!  Seeing and feeling spirit is something that we can all do - we have simply learned not to do it. We are told from an early age that our eyes are playing tricks, we are 'imagining things' etc, and so we learn to filter out the higher senses. When you come on a ghost hunt with me, I share my experiences in how to open up and see and feel energy, as well as helping and guiding you safely through the vigils.

I believe everyone has some ability and it is possible to learn how to use that ability in a very short space of time. Many people who come on our ghost hunts report seeing and feeling things for the first time in their lives. Even some sceptics have gone away converted after having a personal experience that their rational mind just can't explain.

So you can expect a personal experience - maybe. Depends on what energies are around on the night. If a group puts a lot of energy into the investigation, then they will get good results. If you just sit and watch, not a lot happens - unless you are incredibly lucky of course.

You will be given time on your own to conduct your own experiments and you will also be shown how to use various pieces of ghost hunting equipment which you are then loaned for the evening.

You will also take part in guided vigils with experienced mediums and paranormal investigators, where you will be able to try table tipping, glass moving and other experiments under supervision. Of course these are physical manifestations of energy and usually we will get some movement of a table or glass - even if only slight. Usually, however, these exercises prove very successful with tables sliding around the room and messages being given via the glass.

The Ragged School London 21/1/12

Originally a home for poor or 'ragged' children, this haunted building is an imposing piece of Victorian Architecture. Between 1867 and 1908 it housed some of London's poorest children and was their only hope of being clothed and fed and given a basic education.


After the Government began to look after the poor, the building was used as a warehouse until the 1980's when it was threatened with demolition.


It was then that a group of local people joined together to save them and reclaim their unique heritage. The Ragged School Museum Trust was set up and the museum opened in 1990.


Michael and I have been here once before and we were looking forward to returning. On our mediumship walk we picked up on children playing in the basement and dark hooded figure, skulking in the shadows. The classroom seemed to hold the energy of a very strict school-mistress and also an older man who brought the smell of pipe tobacco with him.  On the guests investigation one couple told us that on the top floor a cupboard door seemed to be opening on request. They had checked for loose floorboards and faulty clips and hinges and found everything to be in order.


The vigils began and Jess and I took the basement area with Michael in the classrooms. We heard whistling and saw the dark shadow clearly. We heard knocks and taps on the large table and one group even felt the table move, which was amazing as the table was huge and heavy. The second group heard a plastic chair being scratched and also heard it move.


The ouija boards worked well in the classrooms with two separate groups producing the names Gertrude and Fred and some private family messages.


The whole group then investigated the top floor... where the cupboard once again opened on demand. Although this happened only once, there was no one near the cupboard when this happened so this was very interesting.


Finally we did some transfiguration work in the schoolroom and some interesting characters came through including a couple of people who looked like they had burns or scars.


All in all an interesting night at the Ragged School.

The Evesham Ghost Fest 2011

This week's blog is about the Evesham Ghost Fest, organised by me and Michael and Dusk Till Dawn Events - and what a great weekend it was too.

Evesham is very very haunted, and right from the beginning had a mystical connection.  In 702 A swine-herd called Eof saw a vision of the virgin Mary in some woodland and brought the Bishop of Worcester to see the manifestation. The Bishop saw her too (along with two angels) and immediately built a church in her honour. This soon became a place for Pilgrims to visit and a town sprang up around the church, which eventually became Evesham Abbey.

There are two ley-lines which cross in the centre of Evesham, and we believe this is what creates the energy for all the ghosts and spirits to appear and interact with us.

The Festival started on Friday evening with a Victorian Seance at Spiritus, my Tudor house/shop in the centre of the town.

The seance began with Celebrity Medium Ian Lawman doing transfiguration in our Victorian Spirit Cabinet. The red light in the cabinet gave off an eerie glow, as Ian's face seemed to change, taking on the features of the different characters that are often seen at the Spiritus. Some of the guests also had a go, with great success. 

We then split into smaller groups in which we did some table tipping, mirror scrying, and glass moving. Our large, heavy seance table shuddered once or twice and then began to glide around the room! The smaller table moved violently and the spirit pushing it seemed to take a real liking to some of the ladies !

Finally, we moved down into the cellar, where the energy seemed to be very strong. We did some energy raising exercises, and finally, the moment everyone was waiting for - the chair we had placed in the centre of the circle moved - on its own! 

What a cracking start to the Ghost Fest.

Saturday morning saw us at the Town Hall with our psychic fayre. There were many stalls and readers, including Hedgewitch Hill Handicrafts, Sonia's Kin, Spiritus, Kay McGowan Psychic Artist, Susan Ingleby and many others.  The Workshops, which were free, included Susan Ingleby talking about colour, me talking about Angels and how they operate, Carmel Langridge giving a palmistry class and Michael Treanor-Smith demonstrating clairvoyance and tarot reading.

Michael then joined Ian Lawman for a Ghost Walk around the Town, taking in the history and ghost stories of Evesham.

Saturday evening kicked off with a Ghost Hunt at Salford Hall, an old monastery which has been used for many other things, including a girls school and a convent for french nuns. 

The guests began their evening with a 3 course meal, which was followed by Michael and I giving each guest a mini tarot reading - then the Ghost Hunt began..

We split into three groups with Ian in the old kitchen and Michael and I taking a haunted bedroom each.  Amongst other things, the figure of a monk was seen in room 23, a light switch was switched on in room 12 and strange smells, noises and shadows were seen in the kitchen. 

We left Salford Hall at 2am, to prepare for the workshop of Sunday.

The workshop began at 11am where Ian Lawman, Susan Ingleby and myself  helped the attendees see and feel auras and learn how to receive and interpret messages from the spirit world. Finally, the first official Evesham Ghost Fest ended at 4pm.

It was a fantastic weekend, and I would like to thank everyone who helped make it such a success, including all our lovely guests and attendees.

Woodchester Mansion 27/5/11

Woodchester Mansion near Nympsfield, Gloucestershire is unique, in that it is an unfinished gothic masterpiece. Benjamin Bucknall was the Architect, and William Leigh the wealthy owner and builder.  The Mansion is situated at the west end of Woodchester Park, and William Leigh originally looked at Springthorpe House (the site of the now Woodchester Mansion) as a potential home. However, he decided too many repairs were needed and demolished Springthorpe in order to build his Gothic vision, Woodchester Mansion. However, the fortunes of the Leigh family were not consistent and the building was never finished. Leigh was also a perfectionist and this slowed the building works - however it also meant that the work produced was incredibly beautiful.

In one room of the Mansion, visitors can still see the tools left behind by Freemasons working on the site. I have often wondered why craftsmen would simply leave the tools of their trade behind? The story goes that Leigh ran out of money and didn't pay them, but surely you would not leave expensive tools behind? The very things that your livelihood rests on?

The night began with a walk around the mansion, and the energies felt very high. The kitchen area, bathroom and third floor all felt really energetic, so these were the areas we decided to do vigils in.

To start with, however, we did one large vigil with the whole group, in the cellar.  As we called out in the cellar I heard a man whisper in my ear "my name is Eric". I told the group what I had heard, and then suddenly, there were three loud raps on the cellar door! Then a horrible gravelly voice was heard to say  "it's me, Eric"!  We asked Chris, the keyholder, if Eric had been picked up before, and he confirmed that Eric was a stone mason working on the Mansion - what a great start to the night !

We then split into two groups, with me and Susan Ingleby taking the lower floor, Michael and Sam Hill taking the 1st floor.  Sue and I had some brilliant table tipping and Michael's group encountered a woman called Charlotte, who was stuck in the mansion and wanted to be moved on with her babies.  At one point, when we were in the chapel, we thought we saw two figures with torches and assumed it was someone from Michael's group - Michael and Sam saw the same thing and assumed it was our group!

In the chapel, on man became overwhelmed with the spirit of James, a foreman at the Mansion. Sue and I had to bring him back gently - wow this night was really kicking off! Nothing prepared us though for the events on the third floor...

The final vigil was a large group vigil on the top floor.  We decided to try and move Charlotte and he babies into the light. At the point where Charlotte was about to go over, all hell broke loose. People began screaming and we felt an energy rushing towards us. The torches were switched on and we saw one lady had completely fainted - her name? Charlotte.

After making sure she was OK, we continued to move the spirit over, but the third floor felt very threatening with all sorts of scary images being seen. I saw a white snake slithering across the floor, for example.

The end of the evening seemed to come very quickly and one lady came up to me at the end and said "I was a sceptic, but not any more".

Temple Meads Station Bristol 21st May 2011

Not deterred by the fact it was Judgment Day (!) we set off for this amazing building, right in the heart of Bristol, really quite excited.  We were the first paranormal group to ever investigate this location, and had been there once before on a scouting exercise. We couldn't wait to start interacting with the long-forgotten spirits of Temple Meads...

Designed by the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the Station took two years to build, being completed in 1841. It was the first Railway in Bristol to be used by the Great Western Railway and is now a Grade 1 Listed Building.

The name Bristol Temple Meads derives from its location in meadows in the parish of Temple church – on the site of a 12^th century Knights Templar church. 

The station also houses a dark and very haunted set of vaults, which date from the original 1870s construction. 

  

The tunnels also contain  an air raid shelter and  we also were able to investigate the cellars of Exeter House, a grand building which sits adjacent to the station.

Throughout the night, activity included stones being thrown, noises and sighs, small sparkly lights, and at one point a man had his baseball cap removed - even though we were all holding hands and he didn't feel it come off! It was only when it landed on the floor that we realised what had happened. 

A tragic victorian family, a harsh money collector and a young child were all spirits who made a connection during the evening.
